Meet the VHC Team!

It’s been an exciting summer and fall at Vielka Hoy Consulting. We are growing in order to meet the needs of even more students. 

Meet the newest members of our team!

Dayspring Mattole, Executive Director

Dayspring Mattole has worked in education for over ten years, advising and mentoring students as an administrator and working to advance equity and inclusion in higher education. She has a deep passion for addressing systemic inequities and empowering individuals to pursue their goals and thrive. Dayspring graduated from Wheaton College (IL) with a B.A. in Sociology and earned a Master of Education in Student Development Administration from Seattle University. 

Dayspring works with all of our clients to ensure a smooth transition to their case manager and leads workshops and presentations in the community, sharing college knowledge. Amanda Weingarten, Case Manager

Amanda has worked to support students and families in a variety of college, high school, and social work settings for ten years. She earned a BA in Psychology from Dominican University of California and a MA in School Counseling from Manhattan College. She is looking forward to using her experience to guide and support students and their families as they prepare for college. 

Amanda provides coaching and support for our clients grades 7 through 11.

Charles Daniel, Career and Graduate Program Coordinator

Charles has worked in a number of advising and mentoring roles in higher education after being inspired by the support he received as a student. He was a first-generation student at Portland State University, where he earned a B.S. in Psychology and a M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy, and is deeply committed to helping others achieve their dreams. He is particularly excited to contribute to VHC’s mission of working with underserved students, and helping to extend it’s capacity to support students throughout their journey in college.

Taryn Glynn, Alumni Program Coordinator

Taryn earned her BA in Adolescent Education from St. John’s University in 2012. After graduating she served an AmeriCorps year with City Year, changing her goals from teaching Italian to teaching Math! She taught at several charter schools in Brooklyn, NY and earned her Masters Degree from Relay Graduate School of Education. She is excited to use her experience as an educator and coach to support students and families through the journey of applying to and persisting through college.

Taryn works with clients during the transition from senior year through college, supporting students in graduating on time and with as little debt as possible. 

Akhila Vemuri, Tutor and Intern

Akhila is a sophomore at San Jose State University majoring in Business with a concentration in Management Information Systems. Akhila is very involved with on campus activities and clubs in her school, such as MISA, KESA, and intramural basketball. When not in school, Akhila enjoys going on photoshoots with her friends and exploring new places, trying new dessert places, and learning the various complexities of Premier Pro. 

Akhila tutors clients grades 7 through 12. Akhila also supports the Alumni Program and other Vielka Hoy Consulting projects. 

Azhia Harris, Tutor

Azhia is a senior at Stanford University double majoring in Computer Science and Biology. She is really interested in ways to combine tech with health and healthcare delivery. She loves working with students and helping them reach their goals. In Azhia’s free time, she likes to read, bike, and bake. 

Azhia tutors clients grades 7 through 12, as well as current college students. 

Miguel Rodriguez, Tutoring Program Coordinator

Miguel is an educational professional with 6 years of experience in mentoring, tutoring, and providing academic support to students in both secondary and higher education. He began his undergraduate career at Umpqua Community College and then graduated with a BS in Mathematics from Portland State University. Miguel is dedicated to the success and empowerment of students by promoting self-advocacy, cultural awareness, and strong mentor relationships. Miguel is excited to continue this important work with VHC, and connect with new students and see them flourish! 

Miguel develops curriculum and training resources for our tutoring program. He also works with current college students as a tutor. 

Kaila Williams, Relationship and Sales Manager

Kaila spent three years teaching high school English in the Mississippi Delta before joining VHC and Bridge to College. She graduated from Penn State with degrees in Journalism and International Politics. Kaila thinks education in America has become a bit bonkers, and is excited to join Vielka Hoy Consulting in a capacity that she believes allows her to make a change and fight educational inequity to get students to and through college.
